John 4:14-42 (December 14, 2014)

The United States seems to be on the verge of a race war. Corruption and crime and perverse sexuality is all around us. The famous line from Dante’s Inferno applies: abandon all hope, ye who enter here. The desperation of the human race has once again come to the surface for all to see.

Don’t misunderstand me. This is nothing new. Sin and death have always dominated mankind. What we are seeing so openly right now has always lurked beneath the surface. Oh, the culture will figure out how to get it shoved back into the darkness. Some small act of selflessness or heroism will happen, and the news will take an upward turn, and these dark days will be forgotten.

But right now people are being reminded just how dark this world is, how wicked people can be, how much in need of a Savior we are.

Those of us who have put our faith in the Lord Jesus carry His invitation to the world. Eternal life is given to those who believe. All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. To be a Christian is to be one who worships God in spirit and in truth, as God and Father, as Lord and Savior.
